-
- We primarily use Macintoshes where I work (Bozeman Public Schools), and
- debated the issue of which removeable media drive to recommend. We had been
- using Iomega Bernoulli drives, but phased them out because we found them to be
- bulky, expensive and unreliable.
-
- We chose the EZ135 for the following reasons:
-
- 1) It was available
- 2) It's 2x as fast as ZIP (true...it's as fast as my Mac hard drive).
- 3) The media holds 135mb (~130 formatted)
- 4) SyQuest has better support, makes a reliable product.
-
- While the Zip's EJECT feature is kinda nice, you won't be able to do that on
- the Amiga unless you buy the ZipTools package.
-
- Looking at it from both sides:
-
- 1) the Zip disks are more durable and portable.
- 2) May very well become a standard.
-
- Most Amiga people, when they first heard of the Zip, freaked out and tried to
- buy one as soon as possible. I do not regret recommending that our district
- buy the EZ135 drives, and would in fact get one for my home Amiga if I had the
- cash. I wish more Amiga users would have waited it out and bought an
- EZ135...it's a nice little drive.
-
- Now the Jaz drive...THAT's a different story...I haven't played with one yet,
- but it looks nice...I think there will be 256MB and 1GB disks...but this is a
- different category of removeable drive...really not in the same price
- range/consumer target audience as the Zip or EZ135.
